dejablue7: 10 Things Teenage Writers Should Know About Writing

This article giving advice to teen writers was posted on uzumakisama's LJ. I read it, found it quite interesting, and thought it might have been of interest to the people on Tricksy too :).

So here it is:

This has been a long time in coming, but I finally finished me-chan's birthday gift. I'll post it here, and on my journal, but please, comments are always welcome. And most of all, I hope you enjoy this, me-chan.

It's only lightly editted, but...

Brad!book, Chapter 1 (rough)Collapse )

The technical end of the chapter was the original Bradwin/Kai snippet I posted a looong time ago, but I don't think LJ will let me post all of that. So, instead, you just get what came before.

Happy birthday, me-chan.

rem_sama: A Prologue!

Quickie post at...

*checks clock*

...2:16 AM! =D

This snippet most of you might have seen already, but since it would probably be a good idea anyway, here be the prologue for Book I of the Margin of Calculated Error trilogy. The meat of this was written VERY QUICKLY over the course of twenty minutes, as I had just woken up from a beyond awesome dream and just had to get it down. So yes, this series began as a dream, which is always fun.

This prologue is designed to basically retell everything from my last post, or at least the parts about the world itself. It's from Amos' perspective, exactly seven years after the point at which chapter one of this book begins. Funky, I know, but it seems to work. Also, it does give away a goodly portion of what occurs during those seven years, but that was intentional. ^^;

kilerkki: Heyo

*waves to everyone* Hey, I'm Kilerkki, and after a six-month hiatus writing fanfiction, I'm hoping to kickstart my original stuff back into gear. I've been writing seriously for about 10 years, working on an embarassing array of projects (mostly fantasy, with a little sci-fi and Western thrown in for good measure), but I'm hoping that maybe here I can buckle down and get focused. And get writing!

So, yeah. Picking up Storm of Fire after about a year's hiatus, reworking character profiles, adding new characters and plot on the spur of the moment...it's gonna be fun.

Dust-jacket summary:

In a world torn by wars with spells and steel, fifteen-year-old Thomas Hale is doing his best just to stay alive. Tainted with a magic he can’t hope to control, drafted into the Army and sent out to die, Thomas places his desperate trust in the only creature who cares for him: the gryphon hound Chase, a massive dog of a breed created to hunt legendary gryphons, but now used to control wizards and kill men. As Thomas’s familiar, bound to the boy by ties of blood and magic, Chase is the only thing that can tame the rogue magic raging in Thomas’s blood. He’s also the only living being with any interest in keeping Thomas alive…

While war rages around them, devouring more members of their tiny company each day, Thomas and Chase discover secret wells of strength within each other that neither knew existed. But they also discover another, far more terrible, secret. The sorcerers who rule their country have created and perpetuated the war for their own reasons—and if they learn what Thomas knows and what Thomas is, the war that has ripped their world apart will be nothing compared to the cataclysm that will come.

Character Profile: Thomas HaleCollapse )

Yeah, it's a military story...sort of. But it's not (at least, I hope) one of those young-soldier-rebels-and-takes-over-country stories. I like to write about people, and, well...You'll see.

squeakchan: Took that test thing

Well, took that personality test thing for Daeron. Which was hard. And I think I mighta answered some things odd, but then again, these tests aren't always perfect. Some of the things came out wonky but uh...yah.

vampydirector: CedSev Book Lives!

Well everyone, after much planning, writing various practices scene, etc, my boys decided that I need to just write their damned story and be done with it!

So, I started. Amazing how persuasive those two can be...

Anyway, started from scratch with the beginning. I had two versions of the original and blah, don't like it anymore. I think I salvaged one line simply because I liked the description, but other than that, ALL NEW! *cackles!*

I was at a good stopping point (never minding that I have to leave to go to work soon) and I thought I'd share with everyone. So, with that said, I give you the beginning.

And I do apologize for not making this a friend's only entry, but I don't have everyone in the community on my f-list, so, yeah.

Simply, the beginning of it allCollapse )

Let me know what you guys think. I'm sure there are lovely mistakes in there, but please, point those out to me too.
